Meet the 2018-19 Executive Board

As we begin another school year, it is yet again time to introduce our readers to the newest Gardy Loo executive board. This year, we have some old faces, some very old faces, and some new faces. And the new faces are men! What an anomaly.

Without further ado, here are your 2018-19 Executive Board Members:

Kathryn Walker, Editor-in-Chief

Kathryn Walker is currently a super-senior English and Political Science double-major at JMU (she recommends not declaring a second major as a junior). She has been involved in Gardy Loo longer than anyone else currently on staff, and feels very privileged to be able to once-again act as Editor-in-Chief. In her free-time, she enjoys long drives, reading, cross-stitching, drinking coffee and tea, wearing sweaters, visiting her family in Roanoke, Virginia, and hanging out with her cats–you know, your basic 22-year-old grandma stuff. She also enjoys traveling, when she gets the chance, and Scotland is her favorite place in the world, especially given her propensity for sweaters and hot drinks.

"Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the world all one's lifetime." – Mark Twain

Aereen Lapuz, Design Editor

Aereen is a senior Graphic Design major and this year’s Design Editor. She enjoys playing her guitar, watching Asian dramas, and drinking green tea lattés. You may run into her if you find yourself in Duke Hall or the Studio Center (she pretty much lives there). Her favorite thing about working on the magazine is seeing people excited over design.

Evan Nicholls, Managing Editor

Evan Nicholls is a junior at James Madison University, pursuing an English major with a minor in Creative Writing. He has work appearing in Passages North, Maudlin House, THRUSH, Lost Balloon, GASHER, and Gardy Loo, among others. Evan is from Fauquier County, Virginia, where he loves a dog called Fudge. Follow him on Twitter @nicholls_evan. Find him @ Keezell Hall.

Katja Wisch, Assistant Design Editor

Katja is a junior SMAD major with a concentration in Digital Video and Cinema and a minor in German. One day she hopes to become a known director or cinematographer, but in the meantime she’s drinking tea, listing to Bob Dylan or Bruce Springsteen, and making short films and music videos with her friends. Apart from watching Reservoir Dogs for the thousandth time, she enjoys hanging out with friends and going to as many concerts as possible. Traveling has been a big part of her life, and she hopes to explore new and exciting places in the future.

Isabella Lassiter, Public Relations Manager

Isabella is a junior Graphic Design major, who joined Gardy Loo in Spring 2017. Her free time is usually spent finding a new series to watch on Netflix, or roaming around Carrier looking for friends to distract. Isabella is from Richmond, Virginia, where she loves finding the coolest places to eat and new thrift shops to dig through. In Harrisonburg, Isabella works at Greenberry’s Coffee (go say hi!), and can usually be found making up new drinks there. As the Public Relations Manager, one of Isabella’s responsibilities is running the Gardy Loo Instagram page, which you should go follow @jmuGardyLoo!

Matthew Blackburn, Events Manager

Matthew Blackburn is a junior English and Sociology double-major with a minor in Creative Writing. He is from Lexington, VA. For someone who works on a literary magazine, he doesn't read a whole lot, but he listens to music and watches anime and HBO shows. He can sometimes be found at the Harrisonburg Farmer's Market. He is excited to plan a lot of events for the staff and readers of Gardy Loo.
